After a crazy year, The Good Society Brewery and Public House set to celebrate its first anniversary this weekend
Unfortunate, daunting, but not prophetic. The Good Society Brewery and Public House opened one year ago in West Seattle, just weeks before the pandemic became a harsh reality. The brewery not only survived, but it actually thrived. Well, thrived as much as it could given all the restrictions and precautions.
Because 2020, the pandemic was only part of the chaos. When the West Seattle Bridge was closed last March, The Good Society found itself on Accidental Island. More adversity. More fortitude. More resilience.
As we reported in October, The Good Society received a couple of lofty awards from the judges at the 2020 Great American Beer Festival, the most-esteemed beer judging competition in North America. The young brewery won a gold medal for one of its beers and was also named Small Brewpub of the Year. Very impressive.
Also because 2020, there is snow in the forecast this weekend, when the brewery intends to mark its anniversary. Somehow that seems fitting. Unfortunate, but fitting. More adversity. But hey, The Good Society knows a thing or two about that.
Congratulations are certainly in order. Here’s how the brewery plans to commemorate the occasion.
The Good Society is Turning 1!
Our first year has been a crazy one. From a completely packed pub on opening day to being able to sell only crowlers a mere thirty days later to partially opening inside to setting up outdoor seating to upgrading the outdoor seating to upgrading the outdoor seating again to closing down inside again to opening partially inside again all while brewing some pretty good beer and making new friends with our community.
While we cannot have the party we had hoped we would when we opened a year ago, we still could not let this weekend pass without mention. So we lined up a few small things to celebrate one year.
1 – Our mission has always been about togetherness and community. On Friday we will release our final numbers on how much we were able to donate to local causes last year. Make no mistake, we were able to do this because of the support you gave us. We will also unveil a new way for you to pick which cause your beer supports.
2 – Merch! Many of you have noticed we have been low since Christmas. We will have our shirts restocked and are hopeful that we will have a few new items for you to don!
3 – Pretzels! We hear people like our pretzels. We would tend to agree. So let’s give them a boost with a few dipping sauces! Inspired by the late Brave Horse Tavern, the three sauces will be a three cheese spread with Mama Lil’s peppers, sour cream and onion, and smoked peanut butter bacon.
4 – The Admiral Club! Another way for us to engage with our community, the Admiral Club is The Good Society’s free to join loyalty program where you accrue points redeemable for exclusive merch each quarter.
5 – Beer! What kind of brewery anniversary would it be without an anniversary beer? Nuclear Kitty Eyes, our first Double IPA, is a hoppier, more intense version of neighborhood favorite, Neon Kitty Eyes. And for added fun, we also brought back Neon Kitty Eyes! Both will be available on draft and in cans.
Thanks for a great first year. We hope to see you this weekend and beyond. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
